Nutrifloc®

Nutrifloc® is a ferrous (Fe²⁺) based iron salt used for the removal of phosphorus from sewage. Nutrifloc® is dosed prior to the aerobic biological treatment stage in sewage treatment, allowing reductions in treated sewage phosphorus levels to well below 1mg/L. Nutrifloc® works by precipitating phosphorus with both ferrous iron and also ferric iron which is formed via oxidation of Fe²⁺ in the aerated biological stage.

Fe²⁺_(aq) /Fe²⁺_(aq) + PO₄^3-_(aq) -->FePO_4(s)/Fe(PO₄)_2(s)

Precipitated phosphorus is then removed along with the biomass in the secondary sedimentation stage. If the sewage treatment plant does not have an aerated biological treatment stage, Nutrifloc® should be used for phosphorus removal.

• Nutrifloc® can be used where seasonal phosphorus limits are imposed.
• Nutrifloc® can also remove dissolved sulphides from raw sewage, therefore reducing odours that are caused by hydrogen sulphide.
• Dosing Nutrifloc® prior to secondary treatment will increase sludge density and settleability.
