MHL

The introduction of more stringent effluent discharge requirements by regulatory bodies has led to an increased need for industry to more effectively treat its waste water. In order to meet tighter requirements and still maintain profitability, industry is increasingly placing greater emphasis on the correct selection of treatment chemicals. As discharge limits are tightened further, MHL, a versatile alkali reagent recently available in Australia, will increasingly become the alkali of choice. Due to the unique physical and chemical properties of MHL, it has been proven in many applications as an user friendly, economic and environmentally friendly alternative to traditional alkali that can provide a wide range of benefits in many industries.

Applications

Aside from the inherent safety and handling benefits, MHL can offer significant advantages over more traditional alkalis and is rapidly finding application in a diverse range of water treatment applications across a broad section of industry.

In addition, the fluid characteristics of the standard MHLformulation can be modified to prepare a quite different product, SulfaLockTM HiGel, which has been specifically designed for spray application onto sewer walls for acid corrosion protection.

pH Correction of Acidic Effluent and Alkalinity for Biological Treatment Systems:

MHL can offer significant benefits over traditional alkalis in the area of pH adjustment of acidic effluent and alkalinity addition for biological treatment systems.

Used for the neutralisation of acidic waste water or the maintenance of biological digester pH, often to allow discharge to sewer or for direct land irrigation, MHL can offer the following benefits:
  • simplified dosing control
  • reduced risk of "bug kills" to due alkali over-addition
  • scale elimination
  • SAR reduction
  • safer to use
  • reduces hazardous chemicals and solid handling issues.
Metal Finishing Effluent Treatment:

MHL can offer significant benefits to the metal finishing industry in the treatment of metal finishing effluent. Used primarily for acid neutralisation and heavy metal precipitation in order to allow discharge to sewer, MHL can offer the following benefits:
  • dosing control
  • sludge volume reduction
  • improved sludge de-watering
  • sludge stability
